OREGON BENEFIT LAUNCHES DENTAL HEALTH & EDUCATION PROJECT
Oregon Friends of Global Village Foundation present “A HELPING HAND for PEACE & HEALING”, an evening of Vietnamese cuisine and music to benefit medical and educational aid to rural Vietnam. The event will be held Saturday, August 26 from 4 to 6pm at the La Fiesta Restaurant in historic downtown Jacksonville, and feature author, movie subject, and internationally known humanitarian activist Le Ly Hayslip.
A wide variety of authentic regional Vietnamese foods will be served, prepared by Global Village Foundation founder Le Ly Hayslip and La Fiesta chef and owner Mai Craft. Bryan and Anh Huynh of Medford will be on hand performing traditional and contemporary Vietnamese songs and music. A short award-winning film on the work of the Le Ly Hayslip and Global Village Foundation will be shown, including footage from a recent aid mission by Medford residents, led by Dr. Ralph Duffin and Linda Moreau.
Le Ly Hayslip, founder of Global Village Foundation and author of the NY Times best-seller When Heaven and Earth Changed Places, and subject of the Oliver Stone film Heaven and Earth, will speak about her 20 years of international efforts to bring peace and reconciliation to her former and adopted homelands, Vietnam and the United States.
Medford area resident and dentist Dr. Ralph Duffin will also share about his newly created Dental Health and Education Project, which this last February brought a group of Medford area residents and dental professionals to Vietnam to treat over 300 children in remote Vietnamese villages. Another Dental Health Education Project trip, including Dr. Duffin, Jacksonville resident Linda Moreau, and Global Village Foundation founder Le Ly Hayslip, will be going the beginning of 2007.
All proceeds from “A Helping Hand for Peace & Healing” go to Global Village Foundation’s Dental Health Education Project and also Portable Libraries Project that brings portable libraries of children’s books to remote Vietnamese villages.
Tickets for the event are $50 each and advance purchase is recommended. To purchase tickets or for more information, please Linda Moreau at 541-899-1052 or 541-326-1624.
